Nev Condon Memorial Stables officially opened
On what would have been the evening of the commencement dinner for the 2022 Weddin Mountain Muster, on Sunday 25 September 2022, the Muster Committee instead joined with the Hon. Michael McCormack MP, Weddin Shire Council representatives and members of the late Nev Condon’s family to officially open the new stables at the Grenfell Showground.
The 36 new stables were named in honour of long-time member of the Weddin Mountain Muster Committee and local horse racing legend, Nev Condon, who helped for many years to care for the Grenfell Showground and assisted as the gatekeeper for the Weddin Mountain Muster, counting riders in and out of the Showground.
Funded by the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme and proceeds from the Weddin Mountain Muster, the stables will provide much-needed, modern facilities for horse owners attending local events such as the annual Grenfell show and the Weddin Mountain Muster.
The stables were erected by a local builder and contractors, with much input and assistance from several dedicated Muster committee volunteers.
The official opening was conducted by President of the Weddin Mountain Muster Committee, Mr. Don Robinson, who together with Nev’s widow Marg Condon, unveiled the stable sign featuring Nev’s racing colours.
Mr. Robinson thanked the Condon family for their contributions as well as the Drought Communities Programme, Weddin Shire Council, Muster Committee volunteers, Grenfell Show Society and Grenfell Showground Land Managers for their assistance with the project.
