About the Muster
The Weddin Mountain Muster is a five-day horse trail riding event held in Grenfell every year. The 2025 Weddin Mountain Muster is being planned for Sunday 28 September to Saturday 4 October 2025.
The Muster was established in 2001 with only a handful of riders and 5 committee members, to raise funds for upgrades to the grandstand at the Grenfell showground. Since then, the Muster has grown to become one of Grenfell’s major annual tourism events with 110 registered riders and makes a significant contribution to the local economy. The Weddin Mountain Muster is a closed event, which books out early in the year. Riders come from NSW, Victoria and the ACT. The event is based at the Grenfell showground where committee members, registered riders, their families and horses camp for the week with all their gear. Daily, guided rides varying in length (up to 30km) leave from the showground and take registered riders through public and private property around the Grenfell district before returning to the showground each afternoon. A welcome BBQ is held on the Sunday night before the ride commences, which all registered riders are required to attend. Morning tea and lunch is supplied on the rides by the committee’s catering crew, with food sourced locally.
Wednesday’s ride is a shorter town ride, where participants are encouraged to dress up for the parade down Main Street and help raise money for a local community group. On the Wednesday afternoon, local small businesses in the Main Street team up to have a Late Night Shopping event for the Muster participants. A great afternoon supporting local and browsing what Grenfell has to offer!
At the end of the riding week there is a finale dinner, provided by local coffee shop, Unwind, and participants enjoy an evening full of laughter about the spills and thrills of the weeks riding. Some registered riders write poems about their week and enter the poetry competition.
