Momentum building for 2022 Weddin Mountain Muster

The return of the Weddin Mountain Muster is now only five weeks away, with the event planned to run from Sunday 25th to Friday 30th September 2022. The Weddin Mountain Muster was last run in 2019, with COVID-19 preventing the event going ahead for the past two years.

“The Muster committee and participants are so thrilled to be this close to bringing back our much-loved week of horse riding in the spectacular countryside around Grenfell” said Alex Makin, Publicity Officer for the Weddin Mountain Muster Committee.

The committee has been working hard to prepare for this year’s event, with contingencies in place to help ensure it can go ahead despite the high rainfall the Weddin area has been receiving.

“The Muster committee have been working with local landholders to select the best trails that can be safely ridden in wet conditions” said Alex.

“Unfortunately, this means we cannot do some of the usual rides to the north of town; however, we will still have some wonderful scenery to ride through, which will showcase the beauty of the Weddin Mountains Region” she added.

The Weddin Mountain Muster Committee riders have been conducting pre-rides to assess the riding trails.

The Weddin Mountain Muster week provides a much-welcomed economic boost to the Grenfell community and businesses, bringing an estimated amount of more than $60,000 to the town each year.

For many years, Muster participants have also raised money through donations, raffles and Return and Earn recycling. This money is then given to a local charity or group. This year the money raised by the participants will be going to the Grenfell Pony Club.

“This is a fabulous bonus for the growing Grenfell Pony Club” said Alex.

“The young riders at Grenfell Pony Club will be the future Weddin Mountain Muster committee in years to come so to support this community group has special meaning” she added.

The Grenfell Pony Club will be the recipient of fundraising conducted as part of the 2022 Weddin Mountain Muster.

The Muster Committee have also been working closely with Weddin Shire Council and the Grenfell PAH& I Association to adopt additional measures to make this year’s event safer and more enjoyable for participants.

“While we will have some additional rules and safety measure for participants, this doesn’t mean we are taking the fun out of the Muster” said Alex.

“As in past years, Wednesday will be our fancy dress town ride. The theme this year is famous horse and rider combinations. With the creativity of some of our participants, this will make for some great costumes” said Alex.

This year, horses will be unable to parade the main street on the Wednesday. The best place to watch the fancy dress parade on Wednesday 28th September will be on the grassed area in the free camp zone at the Railway Station from 11am. Observers are asked to not congregate near the pathway, on the roadside or at the silos.

“Momentum is building for what will be a fantastic week. We would love for the Grenfell community to show their support by slowing down for the riders and horses on the road during the week, welcoming visitors and coming along on the Wednesday to see our fancy dress parade” said Alex.
