2023 Muster a success
Driving through the gates of the Grenfell Showground, anticipation is in the air. The patchwork of floats, camps and horse yards can only mean one thing, the Weddin Mountain Muster is here! After the three year hiatus due to pandemics and rain, we have finally made it, finally we ride again.
The Weddin Mountain Muster is a charitable event organised by a dedicated group of volunteers. Raising funds for local charity groups, this event is all about our love for our community and of course our horses. Riders gather from all over, as far as Darwin to southern Victoria, to enjoy the week-long trail ride through the beautiful Weddin Mountains Region.
Trailing through the trees brings the Ben Hall bush rangers out of all of us. We’re met with bright yellow canola fields, showcasing the farming dedication of the community. These tracks have been hand selected over many months to ensure riders experience the picturesque scenery and the best smoko spots the region has to offer.
As the 2023 president of the Muster Committee, Don Robinson, said ‘the 2023 Muster, what a howling success it was!’
While success can be measured in many ways, there is nothing more rewarding than a sea of smiling faces. We were treated with beautiful weather and delicious food every day. While no ride is complete without some tumbles, all riders and horses went home safe and sound, grinning ear to ear.
This event would not run without the huge team back stage. Specials thanks to our property owners for allowing us to ride through each year. Our committee is full of very special people without whom, this event would not exist! This year, we said goodbye to long time executive members as they step down from their positions. The emotions felt as we gave our final thanks at the Friday dinner, was a testament to their dedication to their positions and this event. These members include our trusty Horse Marshall Boss David Hore, hilarious numbers girl, Treasurer Megan Taylor and captain of our crew, President Don Robinson.
Other special mentions include the Grenfell Show Society and Grenfell Show Trust, Weddin Shire Council, Grenfell Pony Club, Transport for NSW & NSW Police for working with the Weddin Mountain Muster to ensure a successful event.
The Muster’s main goal is to bring people into the Weddin Shire and showcase our stunning scenery and our local businesses. With feedback from local businesses and residents, the importance of our event is highlighted every time. Fundraising efforts from Wacky Wednesday were presented to the Grenfell Pony Club.
All in all, it was ‘the best muster yet!’ The Muster committee are gearing up to prepare for the Weddin Mountain Muster 2024 and can’t wait to have you all back again this year!
